The day has come to a close.
All the classes ended today as upbeat, knowledgeable and ready for operation and education as any great LWW installation. This clinic is tiny in staff compared to some of the installations we have done in previous years, however as I looked around the closing session at the 40+ people that have been involved this week in the 3 different elements of the installation it struck me the impact the past few days (and the future) LWW will have on this clinic.
The room had administrative staff, physicians assistants, the #1 & 2 leads of the clinic, the operators, midwives, teachers, nurses, community elders, the chief of the community, the GM from the district hospital (I called it regional yesterday, it’s really segmented by district) AND the instructors, Michael, Charles, Rev Asante and Rev Amfo-Akonnor. Big Group!
Each group gave a skit and/or read out about their element of the installation to the larger group. Then Rev Asante called on volunteers to share what they learned this week. Great closing session....note: could have used a fan in the room, but I like taking a steam bath.
The water treatment system was online today by 10 a.m. Yep - those LWW folks reading this - Kennedy and “the book” (Michael) along with the three operator trainees pulled the system together in a total of about 10 hours over two days. They did a terrific job that group of 103s, so good that Michael and I were worried that all the glued fittings were so good, the trainees would not have one of those “ruptured” leaks as the system came up to pressure - luckily one of the trainees forgot to glue a fitting and all the trainees got to experience a blast of water.
The education class today was without the children so it was the 9 ladies from the clinic and two schools around the clinic. Again a great group that has become passionate about the health & hygiene information and education.
George Appah led the last piece of the 101 class today by taking the System Management Plan document process and working with the clinic admin and community elders (including the chief) to talk through and document a good systems management plan. George has the copy of the plan - challenge tomorrow is to get a copy of it. Probably going to go with phone camera scan!
The celebration and official opening of the water room is tomorrow at 9 a.m. Rev Asante told everyone that they have to be in their seats by 8:30 - “program starts at 9 and over at 10”. Not sure exactly what to expect, but wouldn’t be surprised to see a good turn out from the community - chief is speaking tomorrow, so I am optimistic.
